Shimano 24 Hours Cycling Le Mans: overall victory for the Dutchs of Sarto Team

On the occasion of the 12th edition of the Shimano 24 Hours Cycling of Le Mans, nearly 2400 riders were gathered 28/29 August 2021 on the Le Mans Circuit. 530 teams well-determined to have maximum of fun after the cancelation of the event in 2020, because of the pandemic.

Coming from all over France and from a dozen countries, several personalities were also on the track: Bernard Hinault (the starter of the race), Michel Laurent, Roger Legeay, Sylvain Chavanel, Jérome Coppel, Nathalie Mauclair and also Jean Biermans.

Overall victory for the Dutchs of Sarto Team
Despite the presence of regular top 10 teams, Dutchs of team Sarto Endurance (n°450) were the strongest this year. After several participations, including a third place in 2019, the group coached by Arjan Fidder has dominated the race from the start to the end, with 243 laps covered (1016km). The two homogenous teams of 4 riders, led by Luke Verburg (selected at the last cylo-cross world championship), have thus reached their goal.

The Socopa Viandes team (n°691) finished second in the sprint only 3’08.525 behind the winners. The second team of Sarto Endurance team (n°478) completed the podium.

“A foreign victory at the Shimano 24 Hours Cycling of Le Mans, it’s the first time in the event history! This can give ideas to other nationalities to join us” said Romain Gasnal (CGO Événement), before adding: ”This 2021 vintage kept its promises: strong emotions, sharing and conviviality!”

Solo riders
In the solo category, Guillaume Eschard (n°134) won with 211 laps (883km and 101st overall) and Anne-Sophie Monfort (n°156) made the difference in the women's category with 119 laps (498km and 475th overall). The first 100% women's team, Team Macif (n°495), was 168th overall with 841 kilometres (201 laps).

2022
The dates of the 2022 Shimano 24 Hours Cycling of Le Mans will be announced in the coming weeks and teams registrations will open in early January.
