Le Mans Shimano 24 Hours Cycling 20.-21. August 2016

Achte Auflage des 24-Stundenrennens am legendären Bugatti Circuit. Zahlreiche Prominente, unter ihnen die französische Skilegende Luc Alphand, geben sich den klassischen "Le Mans" Start.

Nearly 1,500 cyclists are already registered for the 8th edition of the Shimano 24 Hours Cycling of Le Mans, among which about ten nationalities and about sixty women come to compete in the « 100% Women » or « mixed team » categories. The appointment is made next August 20th and 21st on the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit.

This atypical team relay cyclosportive event is open to all! True to the famous motor race endurance spirit on which it is built on, you will find all features which make the 24 Hours of Le Mans worldwide reputation: the « Le Mans type » start, the race by team, the pit stops or the all night long ride on a unique, secured and fully lighted surroundings.

All levels will be represented according to the chosen category: 2, 4, 6, 8 cyclists by team and even single. No problem if the legs would fail as relays management is free. Unlike a classic race, bikers are allowed to come back to the pit at every lap.

Every year, celebrities come to participate. Skier and pilot, Luc Alphand, should renew the experience with his « Lucho Team », after a place in the 2015 general ranking top 100. Not easy for him to gather champions whereas the Rio Olympic Games come. To be continued...

Young retired cyclist after spending 14 seasons among professionals, Anthony Geslin won a bronze medal at the 2005 road cycling World Championships in Madrid. He will compete with a 4 member’s team « to stay true to the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance spirit where 3 pilots share the steering wheel ». He was thinking about it for a while but his professional engagements never allowed him to come. Anthony will participate « for the pleasure » with his childhood friends. Professional cyclist from 2002 to 2006, Eric Leblacher is faithful to the race with three participations in the pair category, including two victories in 2009 and 2011. This time, he will try the adventure in the single category, before participating in September to the Duathlon World Championships in Switzerland.

Riders will be able to gather at the « Pasta Party » during the Friday diner in order to share and exchange anecdotes and last-minute advices. Launched in 2015, more than 300 people enjoyed a relaxing moment before the weekend hustle and bustle.

For non-competitors, the week-end will begin with the traditional morning event called « La Matinale Le Maine Libre ». This one hour ride on the Le Mans circuit allows bike sightseers, old and young, to share a relaxing interlude in a mythical environment, usually dedicated to motored vehicles.

For the second consecutive year, a French Champion jersey approved by the French Cycling Federation will be offered to the winner of the 52nd French Cycling Journalists Championship. This race will take place during the Bugatti Grand Prix, the two hours individual race of the Saturday morning.

Shimano 24 Hours of Le Mans:
Commitment price per person: from 120 € in an 8 members team to 300 € as a solo.
Bugatti Circuit: 4,185 km/2,6 miles – Uphill: 656 yd. from 3.5 % to 7 % - downhill: 1094 yd. at 2 %.
